Heal Somerset State of Nature report
At Heal Somerset, we believe that nature recovery must be guided by evidence as well as ambition. Our State of Nature report is the first of its kind to focus solely on rewilding, providing a baseline assessment of ecological recovery across the site through detailed ecological monitoring.
The report contributes to the growing national evidence base exploring the role of nature-led recovery in reversing biodiversity loss, improving ecosystem resilience and responding to the climate crisis.
Structured to mirror the UK's State of Nature 2023 report, it also aims to show how rewilding can sit alongside more traditional conservation approaches within wider national conversations about nature recovery.
By sharing our findings openly, we hope to support a better understanding of how landscapes can recover when nature is given the space and time to lead the process.

The report
This 72-page illustrated publication is our inaugural report documenting the baseline state of nature at Heal Somerset. We will continue to gather and analyse data from the site to compare with national trends where possible, with the aim of publishing future reports every four years to show how the site is developing and demonstrate and impact.
